HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF TODAY'S CONTROVERSY ABOUT POLICE RACIAL ATTITUDES AND BEHAVIOR.

The History Hour is designed to engage people in learning their own history through participation in discussions and doing research on various topics, from large areas like the history of medicine, to more specific ones like the Progressive Era, to individual years.
Future meetings of the History Hour will be reading/research/discussion of the topics mentioned, and others. Meetings will be held the 4th Wednesday of each month at 5pm. Members of the group would do research on subtopics of a larger topic that have been suggested at the end of each meeting.
Proposed future topics: the year 1919: flu pandemic continues from 1918; Big red scare; steel and other strikes; Black Sox scandal.
Bill (Wilbur) Miller recently retired from over 40 years of teaching U.S. history at Stony Brook University. He has taught courses on the Civil War and Reconstruction; Gilded Age and Progressive Era; history of immigration, New York City, and crime and criminal justice. This last course reflects his research and writing in the history of policing in the U.S.
