Two Suites for Solo Cello by J.S. Bach:

Written between 1717 and 1723, Bach’s cello suites were composed at a time when the modern cello was still being developed.  Bach writes a single musical line that harmonizes itself. The music is lyrical, rhythmic and emotional.  The prelude to the G major suite has been heard frequently on television commercials.  The dramatic C major starts with the flourish of a descending scale and ends with a rousing gigue.
