Presentation by Holding Space Events on planning memorial services

How to Plan an Inspiring Celebration of Life

Holding Space Events reimagines how communities of family and friends gather to support each other after the death of a loved one. A memorial service is an essential part of the grieving process and a ritual that carries us emotionally from one place to another, easing pain and creating connection.  Join us to explore considerations for how and when to plan a Celebration of Life. Whether side by side or miles apart, we will discuss how to gather with easy-to-use technology for a connective and moving experience for all.

A life celebration should be as unique as the person it honors.

While event programs may include traditional elements like a eulogy, tribute, slideshow, or religious and/or spiritual components, we also embrace an honoree's passions and what brought them joy.  Some unique elements we’ve incorporated include an ice cream social, toast with a martini or a beverage of choice, Tuesday Taco night, mindful mediation, and a 7th inning stretch complete with “Take me out to the ball game” played on a harp with guests wearing a favorite team jersey. We’ll discuss how to identify group activities for each life celebration, and recent pre-planning trends (honorees have a few tricks up their sleeves to have the final word) and share available resources.

Suzanne Green, owner and lead planner at Holding Space Events.

Suzanne has 25 years of experience in dispute resolution, financial services, care management, and end-of-life planning. She has coordinated 600+ Celebration of Life events with her team - each was as unique as the honoree. As one of the first to offer virtual memorial services to families in March 2020, she brought communities together when in-person gatherings were otherwise not possible. While the necessity of virtual-only events is hopefully behind us, Suzanne believes that a virtual option remains essential for every gathering so everyone can participate - from near and far.
