Walking Tour of Diverse Sunset Park
Sept. 30, 10-noon (tentative rain date Oct. 1) Last day to register and pay is Sept 11 at Noon
Join veteran Brooklyn tour guide Norman Oder (nylikeanative.com) on a moderately-paced 3-mile walk through a changing neighborhood characterized by diversity. The western segment is significantly Latino, with Puerto Rican residents joined by immigrants from Mexico and Central America. There's also a recently designated historic district. The eastern section is predominantly Chinese, the heart of Brooklyn's burgeoning Chinatown(s). In the middle is hilly Sunset Park itself, containing a WPA-era recreation center and bordering the city's first non-profit co-operative apartments, built by Finnish immigrants. We'll end on Fifth Avenue near some taquerias and other eateries. Please note this is a 2 hour, 3 mile walking tour with stairs and some uneven walkways. Please do not register if you do not think you can keep up. Tickets are $20 and must be paid with a credit card when you register. Checks not accepted. Tickets are non-refundable unless we can find another member to purchase your ticket.
