Nelly Isaacson

I came from Colombia to New York in 1971.  When I moved to Park Slope with my husband, a native New Yorker in 1981 we immediately joined a volunteer non-profit neighborhood improvement group, ROSAS, (Revitalization of the Southern Area of the Slope), where over some 20 years I served as a board member, treasurer and president.   After ROSAS merged with the Park Slope Civic Council, I served as a trustee for close to 10 years.  I also served as treasurer for the Park Slope Neighborhood Family Center.  I was a founding board member of Reel Works, a youth film making training non-profit in Park Slope.

Professionally I worked in international banking and later had a wholesale business selling children’s clothing.  I also worked for a non-profit as a first time home buyers and a foreclosure counselor.  As a retiree I volunteered as a court navigator and presently on financial literacy.

I facilitate a Spanish conversation group with GNPS.

I am interested in applying for the GNPS board because I love this neighborhood and I am inspired by the growth and mission of this organization and I feel an obligation as a resident to help continue its mission.

Joyce Jed

I have been part of Good Neighbors of Park Slope from the very beginning.  In fact, Bob Ohlerking and I came up with the idea of such a group over breakfast at Dizzy’s in 2014.  I have been working on it ever since, and have been fortunate to have been the President of the organization for the past 3 years.

After living in this neighborhood for almost 50 years I thought I knew a lot of people, but what a surprise it was to meet so many new neighbors.  We have been working together to create so many interesting activities that it is sometimes difficult to choose which ones to get involved in.

I am still as much excited about this idea as I was when we first created it.  I spent my work life as a psychologist and psychiatric hospital administrator and I know well how important social connections are for our personal mental health and for the health of our society.  I would like to continue on the Good Neighbors Board so that I can keep on working on this wonderful project.

David Sandgrund

I was born on December 13, 1942, in Brooklyn, NY. I have three siblings, two sisters and a brother. 

After completing one year of college I got a job and worked in the banking industry until I was DRAFTED into the Army in 1966.  I returned to NYC in July of 1968 continued working at the bank, finished college at NYU and got married. My wife Alice and I have a daughter, married with two sons, and a son, married with a son,.

In 1972 I left the bank and went to work in the Ocean Transportation Industry were I worked until I retired in 2008. My last job was with a large Chinese Transportation company and I got to spend time in China. 

Now I am retired, my wife and I do lots of traveling and spending time enjoying the grandkids and GNPS activities. I am an avid photography, reader, especially of Asian novels and Asian history, listening to jazz and I write poetry.

I am looking forward to joining the GNPS board to assist in enhancing the lives of our members and using my knowledge of writing and history to find new ideas for us.

Elizabeth Wells
Hi, my name is  Elizabeth Wells. My husband and I bought our house on 11th Street 21 years ago. During these years, I’ve worked full time and raised two sons, and still found time to participate in numerous volunteer projects in our community, such as disaster relief, making meals and delivering food, and mentoring high school students. Recently, I’ve been out of action due to recuperation from a broken leg. I am doing much better now and am just as likely to be planning a party, cooking a dinner, or hanging out with my family and friends.  We enjoy playing card games of all kinds as well as mahjong. Coincidentally, for many decades, my family has been summering in a small fishing village in Maine, which is the exact same village from which the Park Slope-based Camp Friendship operates.

I believe that community is important. It’s all about the people, family and friends, which is why I hope to be elected to join the GNPS board to volunteer my time and skills. I have come to learn that Good Neighbors is a caring community that truly benefits and serves its members. I’ve been a fairly active member, attending events and hosting bridge and mahjong at my home. I plan to continue to host and get involved in other social activities and event planning. Joining the board would be a great way to strengthen my relationships with this community.
