Walking Tour: Historic Meatpacking District

Friday 10 November 11am

Meet in Manhattan at Think Coffee, 73 Eighth Ave. betw 13th & 14th Streets

Registration is required

How has the landmarked Meatpacking District evolved over the course of 400 years, and what remnants from its rich past can still be seen today?

Join native New Yorker & GNPS member Jacquelyn Ottman – a fifth generation member of one of New York City’s pioneering family of butchers – to experience the legacy of the Meatpacking District.

90 minute walking tour of the neighborhood followed by an optional lunch at nearby Pier 57.  After lunch, enjoy a stroll on the Highline, Little Island, or take in an exhibit at the Whitney.

Lunch - optional - as a continuation of the tour - join us at Pier 57. Purchase your own box lunch at the new James Beard Food Hall (or bring your own lunch) and we’ll proceed upstairs to eat at the outdoor rooftop park.

Accessibility - On this walking tour we will stay on city sidewalks involving no stairs. Some of the streets are cobblestoned. Please wear walking shoes. Please dress warmly, there are breezes off the river.

Transportation:  the closest subway is the A,C,E,L at 14th Street & 8th Avenue. (2 and 3 trains stop at 14th Street & 7th Ave)

There are restroom facilities at our meeting point.
